Raven Waters of Reidsville, Ga. will be the featured artist for November-December at The Kalmanson Gallery of Emanuel Arts Council. An opening reception will be held Thursday, November 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Waters describes himself “like a gymnast training for the Olympics.” He paints every day and has not missed a single day in several years. Waters was born in upstate New York in 1953 and has been a creator using wood and clay since the mid-60s. He has been painting for over 20 years.

Waters was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War after which he returned to his home in Rochester, NY. He stayed in New York for about a year before taking a trip to Florida, where he ended up living most of his life. From 1977-2002, Waters was a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. In 2001, after meeting his wife, Janisse Ray, Waters taught himself to draw and paint in watercolors.
Waters received his Fine Arts degree from Georgia Southern University at the age of 66. Since graduating, he has been painting nonstop. He also built his 24×32 studio with a 14-foot ceiling to have plenty of wall space for hanging paintings. To see some of his art, go to ravenwatersart.com.
