The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the First Baptist Church Monday morning, April 22, 2024, at 9:15. With Chair John Tapley presiding, there were 45 in attendance including one new veteran. Terry Walker served in the U.S. Marine Corps from June 13, 1983, to August 25, 1989. He obtained the rank of E-4. Walker moved here from the Tampa, FL area seven years ago and is proud to part of Emanuel County. The speaker for the meeting was Morgan Attaway. Attaway is a George Leon Smith II Georgia State Park Ranger and has been at the park for 17 years. He gave a very good overview of the park, the additions and what’s to come in the future for the park. Attaway stated that last year, they had over 87,000 visitors. Chair Johnny discussed the upcoming Herrington Homestead Fishing Derby and the Veterans Cup Golf Tournament. Veterans were fed grits, sausage biscuits with jelly and orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice and coffee. Thanks to the First Baptist for a great breakfast.
