The Veterans at the Library held a “Service of Remembrance and Appreciation” for fallen veterans on Saturday, November 9, at 11 a.m. on the square in downtown Swainsboro. During the ceremony, the names of 39 fallen Veterans and 1st Responders that are listed at the Veterans and 1st Responders Memorial Park were called out. After each name was called, Jim McCurdy would toll the bell. This included five of the Veterans at the Library that have died in the last three years since being organized. After the tolling, Commander Steve Burke of the Brier Creek Artillery held a cannon three-volley salute, after which taps were played by Veteran Richard Claxton. These men and women embodied the values of America, grit, dedication, service and valor. We remember and honor their tremendous bravery and commitment to our country.
