On Thursday, November 9, Twin City Elementary students performed their annual Veterans Day Program. Third, fourth, and fifth-grade students performed music they learned in music class with the school’s music teacher and program director, Mr. Adam Akridge. During the program, students took the audience down memory lane, performing classics like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “Battle Hymn for Gettysburg.” Fifth-grade student Kabreigh Mixon performed a solo of “This Flag we Fly,” and William (Kade) Durden, also a fifth-grade student, performed “Band of Brothers.” The program ended with a “Salute to Armed Forces,” with veterans from each branch of the military standing and being recognized.
Veterans could find their names, branches, and dates served posted on the back wall of the gym after the program. After the conclusion of the program by Twin City Elementary principal, Ms. Jessica Collins, veterans were invited to a breakfast reception in the media center. They also enjoyed student artwork in the hallways dedicated to their service.
