Last Friday, the Swainsboro Tigers faced off against the Metter Tigers, seeking their first win of the season after an 0-2 start. The night at Tiger Field was particularly special as it was Senior Night, with senior participants in football, cheerleading, and the band receiving recognition.
The game kicked off with a newly focused Swainsboro team. The Tigers opened the game by receiving the kickoff, with Jerrlius Williams returning it for a big gain that put Swainsboro in Metter territory. The offense then methodically marched down the field, led by senior quarterback Bryson Tarver and senior running back Quinn Brown. The six-play drive culminated in a touchdown by Tarver, putting Swainsboro up 7-0 after an extra point by kicker Peyton Mason. The opening drive showcased a determined offensive line that set the tone for the rest of the game.
What was particularly exciting to watch was the Swainsboro defense, which dominated from the very first play. Senior defensive tackle Sam “Trey” Turner made an early impact by penetrating the line to make a stop in the backfield, with a swarm of Tigers joining in. The defense quickly forced a three-and-out, and on third down, sophomore defensive back Gazmone Gardner intercepted a pass just before it hit the ground.
Taking advantage of the excellent field position, the Tigers set up Peyton Mason for his first field goal attempt of the season, which extended their lead to 10-0.

Before the half, the Tigers added six more points, heading into halftime with a 16-0 lead.
Both the offense and defense continued to play a physical game throughout the night, leading to a few injuries for Swainsboro. However, these injuries provided valuable opportunities for younger players to gain experience. The Tigers maintained their dominance over Metter, adding more points along the way. One of the game’s most electrifying moments came late in the fourth quarter when sophomore quarterback Marco Danford broke loose on a 60-yard touchdown run. Swainsboro added seven points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth.
Not to be outdone, the defense continued to showcase its talent, with junior safety L.J. Morgan breaking up two passes. Metter managed to score a late touchdown in the fourth quarter, but Swainsboro’s physicality and style of play prevailed as they capped off Senior Night with a commanding 37-7 victory.
This win marks the first of the 2024 season for the Tigers. They’ll look to continue their winning ways this Friday against Appling County, their Homecoming opponent. Tiger Nation, come out and pack Tiger Field to support these young men as they strive to keep the momentum going!
