The Swainsboro Rotary Club met at the Rustic Grill on Monday, March 24, at 12 p.m. We had many guests, so the meeting started early. The area high schools had students that were participating in the Preston Johnson Rotary speech contest. The first student was AJ Edenfield, sophomore at DEA. He plans to attend college and major in engineering. The second speaker was Clay Lawrence, sophomore at ECI. He is active in 4H and FFA. Yasmin Rios, junior at SHS, was the third speaker. She is active in 4-H and is on the Emanuel County Superintendent Student Advisory Board. Dei’vion Davis, sophmore at SHS, was the fourth speaker. He is active in Beta Club and FBLA, and a member of the Superintendents Student Advisory Board. Lawson Frye, freshman at ECI, was the fifth speaker. He is active in FBLA, FFA and Beta, and is on the Superintendents Student Advisory Board and a student leader in FCA. Rotary Club brought in Michelle Milsap, Damien Scott and Dess Smith as outside judges for this contest. The winner will be announced at the upcoming meeting, and they will prepare to go to the district competition. The meeting was adjourned.
