The Swainsboro Middle School Band recently had an incredible performance opportunity. On Friday, February 2, 2024 band students took a trip to Enmarket Arena to perform the United States National Anthem as part of the pregame ritual for a Savannah Ghost Pirates ice hockey game. The band performed to a sold-out stadium of over 7,000 people before joining the audience to enjoy the game as a reward for all their hard work. Many fans, community members, and audience members expressed their delight with how skillfully the SMS Band played and how well they represented Swainsboro and Emanuel County. The SMS Band would like to thank Swainsboro Middle School Principal David Miller. Assistant Principal Steven Golden, Assistant Principal Angela Young, Dr. Gene Hundley, and everyone on staff who helped to make the trip happen. They would also like to thank Superintendent Scotty Hattaway and the Emanuel County Board of Education.
Under the direction of Mr. Tylan Davis, the SMS band has received high achievements over the past year, including 20 members selected to participate in UGA Honor Band and one selected to participate in GMEA District 10 Honor Band.
