Members of the Skunk Brigade, Ted Walker of South Carolina and Lee Herron of Georgia, Sons of the American Revolution, traveled to Augusta to present their program to 40 mem-bers of the Westminster Schools of Augusta’s 5th grade on Monday, January 27, at 9 a.m. The Traveling Trunk Group is made up of members of the Brier Creek Chapter, Wire-grass Chapter, Little River Chapter, of Georgia and Henry Laurens Chapter of South Caroli-na. Each one of these Compatriots have been members for several years and regularly attends events all over the State of Georgia. The traveling trunk consists of items Ted and Lee have fashioned after items that would have been used during the 1700’s and the American Revo-lution. The Hats, pants, shirts and belts are made from roadkill animals. They had the Con-tinental uniforms and British uniforms and militia uniforms that the kids loved putting on and taking pictures. They also had swords and canteens and the Brown Bess, Kentucky Rifle and the Charleville Musket with Bayonet. Each one of Wiregrass members is proficient in a 50 cal. flintlock rifle and a 75 cal. Brown Bess smooth bore musket and they each have been trained and certified by the National Civil War Artillery Association with their six-pounder cannons.
