SHS honors students for excellence in academics

Honors programs were held at SHS on Friday, May 17, at Swainsboro High School. Students in grades nine through eleven were honored for their commitment to excellence in academic areas, including highest averages, dual enrollment, and yearly honor and star honor roll.

East Georgia College Dual Enrollment Coordinator Morgan Clifton presented certificates to 10th and 11th-grade students in their L.E.A.D program. This is designed to recognize high school sophomores and juniors for leadership, engagement, achievement, and dedication to their education and future. The following 11th graders received certificates: Ariel Averett, Brayden Baxter, Bo Brown, Ayden Buie, Yadira Hernandez, Joy Jackson, Adam Kay, Akira Marion, Brice Marchman, Sha’Riya McClendon, Gracie Ogletree, Kisna Patel, Abby Phillips, Cari Phillips, TyKerria Phillips, Charlee Self, Lashunta Shanks, Khalil Shinhoster, Aubrey Slater, Gracie Stapleton, Bryson Tarver, Allie Taylor, Ansley Turner, Sammy Turner, Kimberly Vazquez, Mauriya Walden, Na’Vaeh Williams, Skyler Williford, and Rachael Worthen. Joy Jackson was recognized by Altamaha EMC as one of the students selected to attend their Washington Youth Tour.

The Governor’s Honors Program is a summer program for gifted and talented high school students who will be rising juniors and seniors during the program. It is designed to provide students with the academic, cultural, and social enrichment necessary to become the next generation of global thinkers, innovators, and leaders. The following students were nominated by SHS and served as the nominees for all of Emanuel County: Bo Brown for Music, TyKerria Phillips for Science, Bryson Tarver for Math, and Kimberly Vazquez for Social Studies.

Abby Phillips was recognized as the 11th-grade winner in the Georgia Young Authors Writing Competition. Emily Miller was the 10th-grade winner, and Grayson Brassell was the 9th-grade winner.

The University of Georgia awards the top 10% of students in the junior class with a Georgia Certificate of Merit.
