Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors announces the death of Mrs. Sharon Donaldson Smith, age 69, of Rock Hill, SC on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Duke University Hospital in North Carolina. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 28, at 1 p.m. in the Peebles-Curry Memorial Chapel with Elder Sam Bowen officiating and Elder Will Martin assisting. Visitation was one hour prior to the service at Durden-Hudson Funeral Directors. Burial was held in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Elder Tommy Rountree officiating.
Pallbearers were Matt Lindsey, Alex Donaldson, Wes Donaldson, Bill Donaldson, Elijah Moore and Rob Bowen.
Born in Jenkins County, Sharon was the daughter of William Lewis and Jenene Johnson Donaldson. Raised in Twin City, she was an E.C.I. graduate and obtained an Associate’s Degree from East Georgia Technical College. Sharon was a strong and courageous woman who ran a successful business for over 35 years. She never met a stranger, and she was everybody’s best friend. Sharon was the life of the party who held many nicknames, most notably Pearl, Red and Shay Shay. She enjoyed her long walks, long days on the beach, and trips with her best girlfriends to Hilton Head. An amazing gardener, Sharon was also a wonderful cook and baker whose red velvet cake was legendary. Sharon was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and a proud member of the Elks Lodge in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She was a wonderful mother who loved her family fiercely. If she told you, “Love you mean it”, she meant it. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her sister, Marsha Lynn Donaldson.
Survivors include her parents; daughters, Rann Smith and Suzanne Smith Hampton, both of Columbia, SC; son, Rhett Smith of Columbia, SC; sister, Joanie Adams (Mike) of Evans; brother, Lew Donaldson (Tammy) of Twin City; two granddaughters, Jillian and Olivia Hampton; many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
