Each year the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) present the Youth Citizenship Award to a student in the 8th grade. The 8th grade teachers and students select someone that exemplifies the following attributes: honesty, high principles, loyalty, unselfishness, leadership, good sportsmanship, and responsibility to God, Home, and Country. The Governor David Emanuel-Adam Brinson Chapter, NSDAR, presented the annual awards to these deserving 8th graders at each school in the county. The 8th grade student from David Emanuel Academy – Gracie Scruggs; Emanuel County Institute – Tylaun Baker; Swainsboro Middle School – Gracee Brown. The DAR program aims to promote a greater appreciation of the qualities of citizenship among students.
