Approximately 50 people gathered at the Swainsboro Fire Station at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening to attend the “workshop meeting” of the Swainsboro Mayor and City Council. The surprising number of people attending was largely the result of continuing questions concerning a possible plan by city officials to purchase another building and vacate the current downtown city hall location. In a public meeting format, the Mayor and council listened to the concerns of numerous citizens who mostly opposed the move. No action can be taken at an “irregular” meeting; however, the council can decide on this and other issues that were discussed at Monday’s workshop when they meet next Monday for the regular monthly meeting. The Forest Blade will continue to follow this story with more details as they become available.
