The ECI Middle School Baseball Team were defeated in the second round of the area playoffs by Metter to end their season. The Bulldogs faced South Tattnall in the first round and advanced by defeating Tattnall, 9-4. “Timely hits and South Tattnall miscues led to a Bulldog win over a higher seed home team,” commented head coach Greg Kennedy.
Maddox Sherrod started the game on the mound and pitched a gem of a game for the Bulldogs, scattering 5 hits with 9 strikeouts in his 6 innings of work. Hane Henry closed out the game in the seventh, giving up 3 hits while striking out one South Tattnall batter. Leading hitters for the game were William Kennedy and Bentley Collins with 2 hits each.
The Bulldogs hit the road again on April 10 to face longtime rival Metter in the second round. The Tigers won the championship game against the Bulldogs last season. “The game against Metter was a close one to begin with,” commented Kennedy. “We jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, but Metter answered with 4 runs of their own. We tied the game in the second inning, but costly errors mixed with some 2 out hits by Metter caused the game to get out of hand.” Pitching for the Bulldogs against Metter were Jake Marsh, toeing the rubber for 1-2/3 innings giving up 8 hits and William Kennedy yielding 3 hits during his one inning on the mound. Hane Henry ended the game on the mound giving 5 hits. “This group of Bulldogs always fought hard to the end,” stated Kennedy. “They are a hardworking group of kids that I look forward to see play in high school.”
