Mary Carroll Foskey, 90, of Swainsboro, passed away Monday, January 27, 2025, at the Fellowship Home at Meriwether in Milledgeville. Funeral services will be Thursday, January 30, at 12 p.m. in the Tomlinson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Tidwell and Rev. Jim Harrell officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to time of services. Interment will be in the Swainsboro City Cemetery following the service.
Pallbearers are Bill Carmichael, Larry Biggers, Milton Gray, Charles Rachels, Bill Simmons and Ricky Tillman. Honorary pallbearers are Citizens Bank Board Officers and employees.
A native of Wrightsville, Mrs. Foskey was born June 27, 1934, to Willie Clifford and Eliza Maddox Carroll. She grew up in Wrightsville, graduating from Wrightsville High School in 1951, and attended Andrew College in Cuthbert. On December 12, 1954, she married Ralph Foskey of Adrian.
Mrs. Foskey worked for over 50 years in the banking industry at Central Bank of Swainsboro, First Federal Savings & Loan and Spivey State Bank. Right up to her death, she continued to say how much she missed working in the bank. Mrs. Foskey also worked at David Emanuel Academy as school secretary. She was an active member of Swainsboro First Methodist Church and was a member of the Gordon Fountain Sunday School Class. Her favorite hobby was sewing. She was also famous for her homemade biscuits, homemade lemon pie and pitchers of delicious, sweet tea. Mrs. Foskey is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 65 years, Ralph Foskey; beloved daughter, Jan Foskey Hemphill; brothers, Reuben Carroll, Lester Carroll, Elmer Carroll and Thurmon Carroll; sisters, Rosa Lee Hoover, Irene Kitchens and Virginia Brantley.
Mrs. Foskey is survived by her son, Jerry Foskey (Kim) of Birmingham, AL; son-in-law, Jim Hemphill of Evans; grandchildren, Walt Foskey (Caitlin) of Birmingham, AL, Elizabeth Hemphill of Evans, Hope Foskey Davis (Taylor) of Alabaster, AL and Wes Foskey (Cassidy) of Lake Oconee; sister, Hazel Carroll Rachels of Wrightsville; brother-in-law, Jim Wilson of Sylvania; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to say a special thank you to Ricky Tillman who served as her primary caregiver after Ralph’s death, to the staff of Church Street Manor in Swainsboro, the staff of the Fellowship Home at Meriwether in Milledgeville, the staff of Marcus Johnson Caregiver Services in Milledgeville – Angela, Quita, Kayla and Tancy, and Georgia Hospice Care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to: Calvary Methodist Church Senior Meals Mission Fund.
