Swainsboro High School senior Brice Marchman signed a national letter of intent to play baseball for South Georgia State College in Douglas on Thursday, December 12. The Hawks will be gaining one of the top utility players in the state, with Brice coming in as a two-way athlete, meaning he will play a field position and join their pitching roster.
According to his dad, Tigers Head Baseball Coach Billy Marchman, Brice was born and raised on a baseball field. He started playing T-Ball at age four and hasn’t stopped since. In fact, he wears the number four jersey to signify his first jersey and the first age when his dad recognized his son’s gift for the game. Marchman says it has been one of the biggest joys of his life to be able to coach his son, and it is fulfilling his dream to watch his favorite player be rewarded with the opportunity to play at the next level. He says, “Brice is a player any coach dreams of having in their program. His talent, intellect, leadership, and ability to play any position make him a big motivator in helping his team reach success.” Throughout Coach Marchman’s career, he’s seen 28 of his players get offers to play at the next level, and though they’ve all been rewarding for sure, Brice’s is even more special. “Brice has dedicated his life to baseball and has made many sacrifices chasing this opportunity.”
Brice’s dedication hasn’t gone unnoticed by anyone. Assistant Coach Corey Chalker recognizes that he is an extremely hard worker and competitive player. Not only that, but he also encourages and supports his teammates. Chalker says, “I’ve witnessed the kid take countless swings after practice and stay late with other guys helping them as well.” He continues, “Brice is very much a coach as well as a player on the field and has an inquisitive understanding of the game. South Georgia is getting a good all-around individual in Brice.”

Since Brice’s freshman year, he’s been busy piling up the accolades and distinctions. As a freshman and sophomore at Burke County High School, he was named 3A and 4A First Team All-Region Catcher. Since he’s been at SHS, he is a two-time Positive Athlete Award winner (presented by the Army National Guard) and a two-time Georgia Dugout Club Magazine preseason “Player to Watch” selection. He was also named to the Underclassmen Premier Elite Team for the New Balance Future Stars and an Under Armour preseason All-American. After his junior season with the Tigers, he was named Region 2A Division 1 Pitcher of the Year and received All-State distinctions as a utility player, pitcher, catcher, 1st base, 3rd base, and shortstop.
Brice has also played for Perfect Game, the world’s largest and most comprehensive scouting organization. They host showcases and tournaments throughout the country for high school players. In the 2024 season, he’s been added to several prestigious lists for Perfect Game including High Follow List, Showcase Top Prospect Team, and Underclass All American. In advance of the 2025 season, he’s been named again to the High Follow List. Along with Perfect Game, Brice also played with Georgia Baseball & Softball Academy (GBSA), an elite travel baseball program out of Atlanta, and Georgia Premier Academy of Statesboro.
A signing ceremony was held to celebrate this milestone for Brice. He was joined by his parents, Billy and Devin Marchman, his brother, Jace Marchman, paternal grandfather, Bill Marchman and maternal grandmother, Debra Smith, among other family members. Also present were former SHS baseball coach Hank Aldridge, current and former teammates, representatives from Emanuel County Recreation Department, teachers, and Tiger supporters from the community.
