When you here, “They do not make ‘em like that anymore”; Pa Pete definitely fit the description. He was one of the hardest working men and yet his gentle soul was friendly to all. Pa Pete was a loving Father, Grandfather and friend. He prayed for everyone all the time. His prayers were definitely heard. Pa Pete was a true man of God. He was an active member and Deacon of Swainsboro Freewill Baptist Church and loved his Church. Pa Pete loved his time at the farm. He planted a garden season and loved to pick it for you! Pa Pete’s family and friends enjoyed many of his delicious vegetables. He was famous for his red potatoes, squash, cabbage, turnips, mustard and okra. He also was such a perfectionist that he used a push plow. Pa Pete also loved to fish at the farm. He has caught and fried many. Pa Pete went most every day to feed his fish. He enjoyed seeing them “pop the water”.
Pa Pete loved to stop at Yard Master several times a day to check on his son and family. He always would ask “if we had a good day”. When we answered, “we did”, he said “Praise the Lord!” Pa Pete will be missed by many. Mr. Canady is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Johnnie Sherrod Canady; brothers, Richard Canady and Howard Canady; and sisters, Sara Rabishaw, Joyce Wiggins, Ann Edenfield and Gerline Walker.
Mr. Canady is survived by his son, Frank Canady (Teah) of Swainsboro; daughter, Becky Benefield (Leland) of Thompsons Station, TN; granddaughters, Kala Allmond (Sam), Alie Hendley (Tyler) and Kristin Reed; great-grandchildren, Canady Cole Allmond, Ava James Allmond and Bishop Hendley.
