The Swainsboro High School Lady Tigers flag football team had an exciting day on the field, showing off their talent and hard work in back-to-back games. The first game against Bryan County was a huge moment for the Lady Tigers as they celebrated their first win of the season with a 27-6 victory. In the second game, they fought hard but fell to Portal, 26-6.
In the win over Bryan County, Tonia Ricks (9) stole the show with an impressive 140 rushing yards and 176 passing yards. She also grabbed an interception that fired up the crowd. Jalaya Freeman (6) added to the excitement by running 51 yards and scoring a touchdown. Treasure Phillips (7) was all over the field, rushing for 75 yards, catching five passes, and getting a key interception to help the team stay in control.
On defense, players like Hayden Burke (12) and Emma Blanford (16) made life difficult for Bryan County, pulling multiple flags to stop their drives. Sara Smith (11) and Tramara Brown (20) were also strong defenders, keeping the pressure on and making it hard for their opponents to move the ball.

Later, the Lady Tigers faced Portal and gave it their all. Jalaya Freeman (6) led the team again with 87 rushing yards and scored a touchdown. Kylie Brown (14) and Bre McClendon (4) made big catches and kept fighting until the final whistle. Tonia Ricks (9) continued to shine with 41 rushing yards, 41 passing yards, and one interception.
Even though they didn’t come out on top against Portal, the Lady Tigers never gave up. Hayden Burke (12) and Emma Blanford (16) worked hard on defense, while Kylie Brown (14) and Bre McClendon (4) made plays to keep the game close.
The Lady Tigers’ teamwork, and effort were clear for everyone to see. With their determination and skill, they’re sure to give fans even more exciting games this season.
With that win and loss, the Lady Tigers’ overall record now stands at 1-4. They have games this week against Metter, Washington County, and in-county rival ECI. We’ll have highlights of those games in next week’s edition of the Forest Blade.
