Mr. Herman “Mac” McKenzie, age 87, of Swainsboro, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, in Augusta. Graveside was held Friday, February 28, at 12:30 p.m. at Bithynia Cemetery with Reverend John Gladin officiating. Family received friends Thursday, February 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chapman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Kenny McKinzie, Josh Roberts, Bo McKenzie, Tyler Dawkins, Zack McKinzie, Dillon McKinzie and Chuck Dawkins.
Mac was born October 4, 1937, in Swainsboro, to George Mckenzie and Mattie McBride. He was an avid fisherman, both salt and freshwater. In fact, Mac loved fishing so much, he built five separate ponds on his property, each one named after a family member. He was a very upbeat and social person with a great sense of humor. Mac a positive attitude and was an all-around great man. He worked at Woolworth Co. and retired from management after 37 years. Mr. McKenzie is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet Elizabeth Peacock; sister: Georgia Mae Kersey; brothers; Clifford McKenzie, Frank McKinzie, Rudolph McKenzie, Henry McKenzie and Hershel McKinzie.
Mr. McKenzie is survived by his special companion, Eva Elmore of VA; daughter, Janelle Jones (Roy) of Richmond Hill; grandson, Garrett Jones (Ella Boissonnault); several nieces, nephews, many cousins and friends.
Chapman Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of arrangements.
