Glynda Hatcher Rich, 86, died peacefully with her family by her side in Orange Park, Florida on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Following her passing, Glynda’s life was celebrated in a private memorial service attended by family.
Born in Wrightsville, Glynda was the only child of Edward and Agnes Hatcher. She was a graduate of Wrightsville High School, and being a beauty inside and out, she was selected as Miss Johnson County in 1954. While attending Emory at Oxford College, Glynda met her future husband, Roger Rich of Swainsboro, who was attending Georgia Tech. She then transferred to Emory University where she earned her degree in X-ray Technology. After graduation, Glynda and Roger were married and had two sons. For the following 35 years, Glynda was a proud Navy wife, one who graciously accepted all necessary household roles during long deployments. In addition, she selflessly made it her priority to assist new Navy wives and families by easing their transition into military life. Being a true southern belle, Glynda enjoyed teaching etiquette classes, reading, sharing lighthearted stories, drinking good coffee, knitting, and being with her family. She had a natural gift to put the people in her life at ease through her natural charm and demeanor. Glynda will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 66 years, her two sons, her two daughter-in-law’s, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
