The regular meeting of the Glad Garden Club was held at the Sudie A. Fulford Learning Center Monday, March 11, at 10 a.m. Members attending were President JoAnn Trammell, Sylvia Durden, Audrey West, Carolyn Brown, Jeanette Hall, Thomasene Flanders, Lisa Parham, Sherri Clifton and Karen Van Horn. An inspirational message was given by Sylvia Durden on remembering how Jesus is in all that we do and how He is the answer. We are so grateful for Sylvia’s constant inspiration and words of wisdom.
The Club was so blessed to have Paula Karrh from the Seedling Garden Club present the program on the rules and regulations of putting on a flower show and how Glad’s participation benefits all divisions. Horticulture was emphasized. Paula is famous in the world of garden clubs as she holds many titles including Master National Council Gardener, Inc. Judge, International Daffodil Judge and American Camellia Society Judge. The Biennial Flower show is April 27, 2024, at the Sudie A. Fulford Center with the theme being “Our World As A Canvas”. Paula brought many samples of Horticulture and Design and how much fun it is to bring in specimens to win that Horticulture blue ribbon. Design awards are more specific and stricter. One new division that is being started by Amber Allbritton is a Botanical Photography Arts Exhibit that currently has no award but is being started “just for fun”. What an interesting and informative presentation that generated a lot of excitement for the flower show. Glad Garden Club also had the honor of an invitation to the cute cottage home of Kay Stephens to view her vast gardens of Daffodils. Even though Daffodils are the main theme of her estate, there are many other varieties of herbs and flowers to complete the landscape. Then the Club entertained a delicious lunch at Kay’s pond house. Such beautiful settings on a blustery spring day. Upon leaving, all members were treated to sacks full of cuttings from Kay’s gardens to see if maybe we could start gardens of our own. Thank you so very much Kay. A Thank You note was received from Peggy NeSmith of the Dream Center in Vidalia for members donation of clothes to a worthy group of ladies. In addition to flower show, club members discussed plans to participate in the 2024 Pinetree Festival to be held May 3 and 4. Such fun in planning and participation on the festival was had that all we can hope for is better weather. See you at the Flower show and the festival.
