An election last Tuesday brought a close to a year-long absence of representation for District 5 in the City of Swainsboro. Roddrigus M. Foster, Sr. received a total of 100 votes for the council seat. The only other votes cast came in the form of a write-in tally of 32 votes for Malachi Hackett. Of the total registered voters in the district, the turnout for Tuesday’s election was a meager 12.58%. The council seat for the District 5 had been unoccupied since early 2024 when the former Councilman from that District pled guilty to a felony drug charge in Atlanta federal court.
