At Thanksgiving and Christmas time, Family Connection sponsors activities for the WIC qualified families to promote participation in the program. Children in Pre-K and Early Head Start were asked to enter a coloring contest about WIC foods. The parents were asked to assist the child in circling foods that are on the WIC approved food list. This was a fun way to increase use of their benefits by reminding families of the healthy foods that they have access to through the WIC program.
Additionally, classes are offered to parents to cook foods using recipes with at least three WIC approved food items. This month, parents made dippers from tortilla shells, mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce. The participants also made holiday treats as a bonus activity.
