The Emanuel Retired Educators Association held its first meeting for 2024-25 in the Swainsboro High School Media Center on Wednesday September 19, at noon, with twenty-six members present. President Verdell Brinson welcomed members and called the meeting to order. Four new EREA members, Leslie Johnson, Sue Bragg, Barbara Skipper and Lisa Sammons were recognized and welcomed to the meeting. Swainsboro High School Principal Brandon Andrews provided a warm welcome from the school and distributed an informational flyer highlighting Swainsboro High’s
School Improvement Initiative, as well as the academic focuses for the new school year.
Amid beautiful fall decorations in the Media Center, President Brinson offered an invocation, and members enjoyed a delicious meal prepared and served by Swainsboro High CTAE students and faculty advisors.

Program Chair Elease Turner then introduced Dr. Denise Warnock, Emanuel County Schools Superintendent, who brought the day’s program. Dr. Warnock provided an informative and comprehensive view of the Emanuel County School District and her unwavering commitment to provide students with the best possible learning experience in a safe and secure environment. She stated the mission of the school district is to prepare and inspire students for college and/or career success through personalized learning and relevant experiences. Dr. Warnock also commented on the honor and privilege of serving as superintendent and working with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and community members to advance that mission every day. The superintendent began her tenure on April 1, 2024, following many years of dedicated service within the local school system.
President Brinson distributed the 2024-25 EREA Handbook and reviewed meeting dates for the year. At each meeting this year, in conjunction with the Georgia Retired Educators Association, EREA will draw the name of a staff member at the host school and recognize him or her with a gift basket of school supplies and goodies. Daniel Overstreet, a Swainsboro High social studies teacher, was the recipient of today’s basket. In the coming year, EREA will also support the Georgia Retired Educators Association project, Make-A- Wish Foundation, as well as The Sunshine House Children’s Advocacy Center.
EREA wishes to thank Swainsboro High staff and students for the warm hospitality they extended for its first meeting of the year. The next EREA meeting is set for Wednesday, October 23, at Swainsboro Primary School at noon, with Chief Executive Officer of Emanuel Medical Center Damien Scot, providing the program.
