Born on September 28, 1932, in Colon, Panama, Dorrit was a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Henry Kenneth Stephens, originally from Swainsboro, whose memory she carried with her always.
Dorrit’s life was a testament to love, faith and resilience. After coming to the United States from Panama to attend college, she dedicated her career to the banking industry in Atlanta. It was in this profession that she touched the lives of many with her kindness and commitment to others.
Dorrit poured her heart into her family and her church fostering deep connections with her church family and her children, Linda Stephens Metzler (Tom) of Young Harris, Kenneth Roy Stephens of Savannah, Michelle Stephens of Hartwell and John Stephens (Leigh) of Charleston, SC. She extended great love to her grandchildren, Kevin Metzler of Young Harris, Katherine Metzler Kelly (Brandon) of Oak Harbor, WA, Connor Stephens and Kylie Stephens of Charleston, SC, as well as her great-grandchildren, Karson Metzler, Brody Kelly and Ryder Kelly. She will be lovingly remembered by her nephews, Terry and Armando Archbold of Panama City, Panama, and their families.
Dorrit is preceded in death by her parents, Archon Archbold and Neila Herth of Colon, Panama, as well as her brother, Terry Archbold.
A lifelong member of Northwoods United Methodist Church, Doraville, Dorrit was actively engaged in community outreach, always seeking ways to uplift those around her. Her warm smile and melodious voice filled the church with music and joy. She enjoyed gardening, often tending to her flowers with the same care and love she showed her family and friends.
Dorrit’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her and be a part of her life. As we say goodbye to her, let us also celebrate the love she gave so freely and the lives she inspired. She will be forever missed, but her spirit will continue to shine brightly in our hearts.
Family and friends are invited to gather together, share stories, and honor her incredible journey. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to: Northwoods United Methodist Church, 2635 Fairlane Drive, Doraville, Georgia 30340.
