The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting Thursday night, November 9, at the New China Restaurant at 6:30 p.m. With Acting President Steve Burke presiding, there were 25 atttendees. After the invocation and blessing, the chapter enjoyed a delicious meal provided by the New China Restaurant. Acting President Steve then presented Registrar Dess Smith III from the National Society’s President General Bruce Pickett with the Liberty Medal with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters. Each Leaf means 10 new members sponsored for the previous year. Then Steve presented Dess with the “Gold Liberty Medal” in recognition of outstanding services in the recruitment of 200 plus new members. After discussing the upcoming event at Fort Morris in Midway on Saturday November 18, Steve asked Dess to introduce the speaker for the evening, LTC (ret) Ed DeVos, a retired Army Ranger and has received the Silver Star with one oak leaf cluster, the Legion of Merit, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the U.S. and German Parachute Wings. Ed lives with his wife Susan in McCormick, SC. He is an author of several books, and his presentation was on “Revenge at Kings Mountain, the over the Mountain Boys”.
