The Downtown Development Authority is thrilled to announce that this year’s Pine Tree Festival will include a BBQ Cook-off featuring surprise judge Michael Mixon. Following in the footsteps of his father, known as “the winningest man in barbecue,” Michael Mixon began his barbecue career at a young age. He leads his own team, Jack’s New South, and is also a member of Myron Mixon’s world-championship-winning team, Jack’s Old South. Michael hosts “BBQ Rig Race” on the Food Network and has co-hosted shows such as Destination America’s “BBQ Rules” and “BBQ Pitmasters: Father vs. Son.” He has also made appearances on various other food television programs.

Michael’s barbecue journey began in 1996 when he traveled with his father on the competitive circuit and worked part-time for Myron’s championship-winning team, Jack’s Old South. In 2011, motivated to forge his own path in the world of BBQ, Michael established his own competitive team, Jack’s New South, as a tribute to his father’s legacy. His team quickly gained recognition, becoming the youngest team ever to receive the Georgia BBQ Team of the Year award in 2012 and achieving a remarkable ranking of 26th overall out of 10,000 teams. After proving himself, Michael was invited back by Myron to oversee Jack’s Old South, ensuring its continued legendary success.

If you believe you have what it takes to be crowned the BBQ Master, sign up to participate in this exciting event at www.pinetreefestival.org, or contact Melissa at Swainsboro City Hall.
