After a busy six months of electioneering, local voting will now take a bit of a break following the runoff for the District 3 county commissioner slot. Political newcomer John “Johnny” Moore edged past Chandra Hooks in the June 18 match with 325 votes to 269 for Hooks. Moore has no Democrat opponent in the November general election and will assume the District 3 post in January 2025, which is now held by long-time commissioner Hugh Foskey. The veteran commissioner announced his decision not to seek re-election earlier this year. A total of 594 voters turned out for the runoff race comprising just 20.46% of the district’s total number of registered voters. Early voting accounted for 33% of the total votes cast. Politics will now take a back seat until the Fall and the upcoming Presidential contest. Early voting for that November 5, 2024 election will begin on October 14, 2024.
