Davis Johnson and Gage Johnson, 10th graders at Emanuel County Institute, saw a need in their community and created Cleats for a Cause to encourage all children to participate in recreational sports. When they learned that some children couldn’t play due to a lack of funds for cleats, they wanted to help.
Davis and Gage spread awareness by posting flyers on social media and placing drop-off bins at ECI, TCE, and Durden Bank in both Twin City and Swainsboro. They collected cleats for all sports during a donation drive from November 1 to January 31.
They are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and helped bring their vision to life. Thanks to the community’s generosity, they were able to donate over 50 pairs of cleats to the Twin City and Swainsboro Recreation Departments.
Davis and Gage plan to continue this project next year and will collect cleats throughout the school year to expand the program. If you have outgrown or unused cleats to donate, you can drop them off at the ECI front office.
