The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting Tuesday night, March 4, at the Rustic Grille at 6:30 p.m. With President Paul Cerpovicz presiding, they had 13 in attendance including one guest, Joelle Romanchik-Cerpovicz. Jeff Palmer won the Key Lime Pie and Jim Clapham won the Orange Crème Cake and Domino’s Pizza. A package of Jambalaya mix was won by Wanda Ellis, Bobbie Daughtry, David Gribbin, Tim Goodman and Jeff Palmer.
President Paul gave a Mardi Gras quiz since it was “Fat Tuesday” with a slice of King Cake. Cheryl Goodman got the slice with the “fève” in it, which means she will be lucky and is responsible for baking next year’s King Cake. They found out how little they knew about Mardi Gras, a celebration that has been around since the 12th century. Some Mardi Gras parades are banning plastic beads because they clog the drainage system and have substituted Jambalaya packages. President Paul cooked this year’s King Cake and provided some Jambalaya packages for the door prize drawing. President Paul updated about activities associated with the Little Free Libraries (LFL) project, including the February 21 Arbor Day events. The first LFL was opened at the Fulford Center on the East Georgia State College campus. They assembled the remainder of the LFLs on February 22 and some “assemblers”, President Paul’s neighbor, Circle K’ers, and six Kiwanians, took them home for painting.
