With great excitement and gratitude, David Emanuel Academy’s Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Mr. Andy Callaway has accepted our invitation to join us as our next Head of School, beginning in June.
Mr. Callaway graduated from David Emanuel Academy in 1978 and later earned a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Georgia Southern University. With a total of 45 years experience in the workforce, Mr. Callaway is entering his 22nd year in the education field. He has served as a teacher and coach 11 years at David Emanuel Academy with five of those years as Athletic Director. While at DEA, he coached the middle school and varsity girls’ and boys’ basketball, middle school and varsity football, track & field, and cross country. Mr. Callaway also served one year as Director of Development. After DEA, Mr. Callaway became the head basketball coach and assistant football coach at John Hancock Academy for a year. For the last nine years, he has served numerous coaching positions at Pinewood Christian Academy, and this past year held the position as Middle School Athletic Director. Throughout his educational journey, Mr. Callaway has taught numerous classes including physical education at all grade levels, health and personal fitness to freshmen, middle school social studies, journalism and broadcast journalism to high school students. Mr. Callaway has also been the GISA Athletic Chairman for four years and a member of the State Basketball Committee. Outside of the classroom, athletic fields and court, Mr. Callaway serves as the Sunday School Superintendent of Anchor Worship Center in Metter, GA and Chairman of the Board of Deacons.
Mr. Callaway states, “I am incredibly excited to come HOME to DEA. I’ve had a love for DEA for over 50 years – since I was a student here in 1973. I am excited about the state and growth of DEA and looking forward to taking the accomplishments that Mrs. Haylee has achieved, grabbing the baton and seeing what we can do in the future. DEA has a bright future moving ahead. There will be challenges, but I am eager to serve the needs of the families and provide the very best education that DEA can offer. I am also excited about the current Board of Trustees, faculty and staff and the support system in place. We will be committed to filling in any vacancies with quality people. My daily motto is a simple one, and one that Coach Erk Russell followed . . . ‘Do Right – GATA!’ GATA is synonymous with how we do things — by rolling up our sleeves, digging in, facing the challenge head-on and getting after it. I believe that you should give your best effort with what God has placed in your path. As David Emanuel Academy’s next Head of School, I will use my faith and daily motto to guide me and drive me to work hard, listen to others, and always do what is best for DEA. Every decision will be made with prayerful consideration.”
Mr. Callaway has been married to his wife Nita for 25 years. They have two daughters Nikki Boone (Stephen) and Melissa Sapp (Casey) and six grandchildren, Andrew, Cason, Callen, Avery, Cambryn and Austin.
We look forward to having Mr. Callaway rejoin our DEA family and utilize his years of experience to shepherd change with stability. His focus on students, his care for relationships, his competitiveness and his deep love for his alma mater will daily guide his leadership role here at DEA. Welcome home, Mr. Andy Callaway!
