Compatriots Steve Burke and Lee Herron traveled to Reidsville Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m. to present Steve’s Travelin Trunk to the Josiah Tatnall DAR. There were 16 in attendance, including Steve and Lee. Steve showed them his four eight-foot tables of artifacts that he has collected over the last 40 years. Most of the items Burke has made are from “roadkill”, and as a practicing “survivalist”, he has lived in the wild using most of his knowledge and artifacts to survive. Burke was the first Georgia Society member to build his own six-pounder cannon and successfully fire it. Since that day 10 years ago, Steve has built another cannon and helped nine other members to build their cannons. They are known as the Brier Creek Artillery or simply the “Skunk Brigade”, and are members of the Wiregrass Chapter, Brier Creek Chapter and the Little River Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution.
