The Brier Creek Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution held its December meeting at Compatriot John Fitzner’s Clubhouse on Thursday night, December 7, at 6:30 p.m. With President Wayne Howard presiding, there were 25 in attendance. The Christmas meeting was a covered dish meal with plenty of the holiday fixings to include Boston Butt, casserole, mac-n-cheese, buttered corn, ribs, potato salad, pie’s, pasta salad, banana pudding, little smokies, divinity baked beans, ambrosia salad and green beans. The highlight of the evening was President Wayne’s presentation of the “Sgt. John R. McKinney Distinguished Service Medal” to Compatriot Richard Lee Herron. A SAR Chapter President may present one Chapter Distinguished Service Award and Medal each year of his term of office to a compatriot in recognition for that compatriot’s conspicuous service to the Chapter. The Chapter President presents this medal at his own discretion and no other approval is needed. A compatriot may receive this medal only once. No Oak Leaf Clusters are authorized. The Brier Creek award’s name is named after Screven County’s Medal of Honor winner, Sgt. John R. McKinney. Congratulations Lee for all your hard work in the Brier Creek Chapter.
