Brier Creek Artillery travels to Living History event

Members of the Brier Creek Artillery traveled to Aiken, SC on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, to participate in the Living History event at the South Aiken High School. This event was spon-sored by Ted Walker, the State President of the South Carolina Society Sons of the American Revolution. Compatriot members of the Skunk Brigade of the Brier Creek Artillery were Steve Burke, Lee Herron, Dess Smith III, and Alton McCloud. Compatriot Burke set up his four ta-bles of Revolutionary War Artifacts and Compatriot Alton McCloud set up his tent with his Revolutionary War Artifacts. Both of these were their “Travelin Trunks”. The event included 20 different stations of craftsmen, historians, native American Tipi, revolution era re-enactors, and militia set up at the High School. National SAR Compatriot Brooks Lyles, His-torian General, and his wife Dianne had a display also. The event lasted from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Aiken County School district invited area schools within the distract to attend and support the event and there were over 3,000 students in attendance. Beginning at 9 a.m. the Brier Creek Artillery, consisting of three six-pounder cannons, fired on the hour and a couple of times in between. A total of 19 cannon shots, plus the militia firing their flintlocks put on a show for the students.
