Brier Creek Artillery participates in the Elijah Clarke Event

The Brier Creek Artillery traveled to the Elijah Clarke Heroes of the Hornets’ Nest event held at Elijah Clarke State Park in Lincolnton on Friday, February 7, at 9 a.m. The Artillery group is made up of members of the Brier Creek Chapter, Screven County and the Wiregrass Chapter Swainsboro. Eighty-five students from the Lincoln County School attended the Education morning that was put on by the event. Participating in the event was Steve Burke with his four tables of skins, artifacts, tools, roadkill hats and many other things that Steve has in his traveling trunk. Also participating was Bernard Martin who showed the students his revolutionary art of making black powder and other artifacts. A member of the skunk brigade, Emil Decker, was on hand to show the students revolutionary medicine techniques. The Brier Creek Artillery took four of their cannons with them and fired them at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. At 12 p.m., the event fed at least 100 participants at the park building, then the Elijah Clarke Heroes of the Hornets’ Nest event was held at 1 p.m. A large amount of SAR members participated in the Georgia Color Guard led by the National Color Guard Commander Scott Collins and Colors was presented. After the speaker, the Wreath presentations were held by around 80 wreath presenters, then the militia and cannons held a 3-round alternating volley, after which taps was played. The attendees from the Brier Creek Artillery were Steve Burke, Wiregrass, Dess Smith III Wiregrass, Alton Reynolds Wiregrass, Gary Mason Wiregrass, Lee Herron Brier Creek, Bernard Martin Brier Creek.
