Mr. Aubry Jinx Womack, 81, of Swainsboro, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Emanuel County Nursing Home in Swainsboro. Funeral Services were held Friday, January 31, at 2 p.m. at Blundale Baptist Church with Rev. Jamie Archer officiating, assisted by Rev-erend Shannon Boula. Interment followed in the Blundale Baptist Church Cemetery. Family received friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Pallbearers were G.W. Johnson, Donnie Garrett, Jimmy May, Greg Johnson, Craig Peebles, and Scotty Womack.
Jinx was born June 20, 1943, the son of Aubry L. Womack and Majorie Peebles Womack of Blundale. He graduated from Swainsboro High School in 1961. Jinx received his Associates of Arts degree from Middle Georgia College in 1963 and later his Bachelor of Science degree from Valdosta State University in 1965. He furthered his education at Middle Tennessee State University where he received his master’s degree in history and political science. Jinx com-pleted his course work at Middle Tennessee State for his Doctoral Program where he received an Honors Award in History. He completed an African Studies Program at Boston University during the summer of 1966 which prepared him for The United States Peace Corps Program where he was in Instructor of History and coached the men’s basketball team at Advanced Teacher’s College in Kano, Nigeria in West Africa. Jinx served two years in the Peace Corps from 1966 to 1968. He traveled in 1968 touring Spain, Canada and Mexico. Jinx became the Associate Professor of History at Fort Valley College from 1969 to 1979 when he moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he served for 20 years as professor of history at Stillman College where he served as Chair of the Department of Social Sciences and International Studies. He returned home to Blundale in 2000 to assist and care for his aging parents. Jinx devoted his life to their care and that of his sister, Kay, who fought a courageous battle with cancer. He worked tirelessly on the family property creating a beautiful setting with their pond and grape vineyard. Mr. Womack is preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Kay Womack Davis.
Surviving is his sister, Judy Womack Mincey of Statesboro; nephew, David D. Mincey (Tara) and their children, Cole Mincey (Caroline) and Cale Mincey; many cousins, two of which are Donnie Garrett of Dellwood and G.W. Johnson of Twin City.
