The Bulldogs began region play last week with a home and away two game set against Metter. You could use the first line of Charles Dickens “A Tale of Two Cities” to describe the two games against the Tigers. The Bulldogs only stayed in Metter for 5 innings to run rule the Tigers 16-0 last Tuesday.
The Bulldogs hosted the 0-6 Tigers Friday with Metter taking the game 3-2 for their first win of the season. During the 16-0 rout on Tuesday the Bulldogs pounded out 12 singles and a double while holding the Tigers to just 2 hits. Eight different Bulldogs batters had hits during the game. In the 3-2 loss on Friday, the Bulldogs were held to just 5 hits with only 3 Bulldog batters getting hits during the game. Leading the hit parade in Metter was Lake Bush with 3 hits. Bulldogs ending the game with two hits were Tuff Boddiford, Bryson Thompson, and Gunner Johnson. Jackson Kennedy pitched a gem on the mound. The right-handed thrower gave up just two hits, no walks, striking out 6 Metter Tigers. Metter scored their first run against the Bulldogs in the first inning on Friday. With two on after walks, the Tigers made the score 1-0 with a 2 out line drive to center field. The Bulldogs evened the score in the bottom of the first. Bryson Thompson’s single to deep short, scored Tuff Boddiford to knot the score at 1-1. The Tigers pecked away, putting single runs on the board in the second and third innings to take a 3-1 lead. The Bulldogs threatened to take the game into extra innings in the bottom of the nineth. With two on after a walk, the Tigers made a costly error on a Thompson shot too short to make the score 3-2. With one out and a Bulldog runner on third, the Tigers turned a pitchers’ best friend with a game ending double play to give the Bulldogs their first region loss. Bryson Thompson and Jackson Kennedy led the Bulldogs with 2 hits each. James Parker began the game on the mound for the Bulldogs going 3 innings giving up 4 hits, 6 walks with 4 strikeouts. Bryson Thompson relieved Parker in the fourth, yielding 2 hits with 8 strikeouts.
In between the two region games against Metter, the Bulldogs had a rematch game with Southeast Bulloch in Brooklet. SEB avenged their 3-2 two loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season with a 6-2 win last Thursday. The Bulldogs took an early lead 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Gabe Lee walk, a double by Bryson Thompson and a sac bunt by Jackson Kennedy. The Bulldogs failed to push a run across for the rest of the game with SEB taking the non-region game 6-2. The Bulldogs managed just 4 hits against the Jackets with four Bulldog batters getting hits for the game. Gabe Lee took off his catching gear and toed the rubber for 3-2/3 innings to begin the game, giving up 7 hits with 1 strikeout. Jud Underwood closed out the game, not allowing a SEB runner to reach in the final two innings.
