David Emanuel Academy waltzed into their match on Friday with nine straight wins… but they left with ten. Everything went their way against the John Hancock Academy Rebels as they made off with an 11-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Friday’s blowout was nothing new.
Layton Terwilliger made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn’t allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn’t given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter’s box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Clayton Hood was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he hit this season. Another player making a difference was Tucker Free, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
David Emanuel Academy pushed their record up to 11-4 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games.
David Emanuel Academy and John Hancock Academy will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next games. The next time the Eagles see the field they’ll take on Portal at 6 p.m. on the 16th.
