The Wiregrass Chapter, Georgia Society Sons of the American Revolution, held its monthly meeting Thursday, March 13, at 6:30 p.m. With President Steve Burke presiding, there were 21 in attendance including guests. President Steve opened the meeting with a welcome and asked Alton Reynolds to open with a prayer. Gary Mason then led the Pledge to the U.S. Flag and the Pledge to the SAR. They then enjoyed a great buffet meal of shrimp, corn dodgers, French fries and all the trimmings. President Steve asked Dess for a special presentation of Chapter flag streamers to present to Steve; the Elijah Clarke Heroes of the Hornets’ Nest streamer, Battle at Kettle Creek streamer, the 246th Battle at Brier Creek streamer, the Georgia Society President General Distinction Award 2024, the Georgia Society Americanism Excel-lence Award 2024, and the Georgia Society Education Outreach Award 2024. President Steve then called on Dess Smith to introduce the speaker, Hu Daughtry. Hu is a member of the Mill Creek Chapter in Statesboro and lives with his wife Susan in Metter. He spoke about his new book on “48 Stars in the Trunk”. The next meeting will be April 10, at 6:30 p.m. at McKin-ney’s Pond.
