The Kiwanis Club of Swainsboro held its weekly meeting, Tuesday night, February 4, 2025, at the Rustic Grille at 6:30 p.m. With President Paul Cerpovicz presiding, they had 11 in attendance. Bobbie Daughtry won the cake, and Tim Goodman won the Domino’s Pizza. Deana Patrick presented a program about the American Council of International Studies (ACIS) Educational Tours. Patrick’s niece, who teaches in Trion, GA, has scheduled tours for her high school and middle school students and is planning an 8-day tour to Spain and France. ACIS believes in the power of travel to open students’ eyes and change their lives. Every detail of the educational tour is carefully crafted to help make it happen. The tours make what the students learn in class real. Each group of students has a Group Leader, supplied by the school, and a Tour Guide provided by ACIS. Because of the ages of the students, a number of chaperones are also required. Students are even taught how to pack a single bag for the trip. President Paul reported on the Little Free Libraries (LFL) project. On February 21, as part of the Arbor Day events, the first LFL will be opened at the Fulford Center on the East Georgia State College campus. Arbor Day events will include a tree planting in honor of Denny Key. Mr. Key was an important member of the EGSC Foundation and the Mill Creek Foundation. Kiwanis appreciate the Mill Creek Foundation giving a grant to the Swainsboro Kiwanis Club to help pay for the LFLs. They will be assembling the LFLs on February 22, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fulford Center. No tools are needed. If you are interested in helping, please check with President Paul.
