The Governor David Emanuel-Adam Brinson Chapter of the DAR held their monthly meeting Thursday, January 9, at the Sudie A. Fulford Learning Center at 3 p.m. Regent Kay Woods Lewis welcomed everyone and called on Vice Regent Mary Elizabeth Woods to introduce the guest speaker, Emanuel County Clerk of Court Kristin Hall.
Hall provided a highly informative program about preserving records. She shared information regarding the types of records, the retention schedules for each, and what records are accessible to the public. In sharing a brief history of the records of Emanuel County, Hall reminded the group about records that burned in a courthouse fire during the mid-1800s creating a gap in recorded history. She pointed out that this is one of the reasons it is important to digitize records, which is why her office is working hard to convert historical records from their paper version to electronic.
During the meeting, Regent Woods recognized NSDAR Membership Anniversary Certificate recipients: Carol Parrish (10 years), Martha Cobb (10 years), and Ann Sheppard (30 years). Although unable to attend, the following members were also recognized for their membership anniversary: Ann Powell (20 years), Barbara Stokes (25 years), Helen Holly (65 years), and Meg Leonard for her 55 years of service to DAR.
