Members of the Seedling Garden Club held its annual auction on Monday, November 11, 2024. Members and guests met at The Venue for a sit-down dinner and auction. President Nancy Lisenby welcomed everyone and wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving, and the first to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. No business session was held. Nancy made the following announcements: prayer for Paula Karrh’s family for the death of her daughter-in-law, prayer for Sue Stockholm who had pacemaker put in that day, and thanks and loving thoughts extended to Secretary Imogene Buckley who will be moving to another town soon. Nancy reported that the flowers were planted at the Emanuel County Nursing Home and encouraged everyone to take part in caring for them. Monday, November 11, being Veterans Day, it was reported that the garden club placed a flower and flags at the Blue Star Highway Memorial Highway located at Emanuel County Courthouse in honor of Veterans. The marker is a project of Seedling Garden Club.
Member Dess Smith blessed the food. Everyone enjoyed the meal of lasagna, green beans, garlic rolls, and chocolate pie prepared and served by Linda Jordan of “Eating Well With Linda.” After a fun time of fellowship, the fun really began as the auction began. Club members took auction items and that ranged from all types of Christmas gifts from floral designs to decorations, gift baskets full of Christmas goodies and homemade deserts. The auctioneers, Halie Kate Johnson and Aubrey Harrison, did a great job getting the bidding going and having some bidding against each other, which is always fun. This auction is the only money-making project the club has. This money goes to promote garden club projects local and The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. This year, 25 items were up for auction.
The club was delighted to welcome members of Glad Garden Club and the community to take part in this fun time. Hostesses serving for this meeting were Martha Cobb and Diana Malone. They decorated the tables with red cloths and beautiful Christmas designs. Attending were 15 Seedling Garden Club members and eight guests. After all items were auctioned off, the meeting was dismissed. As each guest departed, they were given a gift bag from Martha Cobb’s aunt Flossie from Alabama, who could not attend but sent gifts, which everyone appreciated.
The Seedling Garden Club is a member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc, The Garden Club of Georgia, Inc. and the Oleander District III.
