The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday morning, October 28, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 47 in attendance. Shari Watt provided pancakes with syrup, sausage biscuits, sausage, freshly cut up fruit, orange juice, grape juice, apple juice, cranberry juice and coffee. After the prayer by Veteran Emory Fennell, Shari Watt then introduced Emanuel County School Superintendent Denise Warnock to tell a little about what was happening in our schools and also about the five Veterans Day events that TCI, ECI, SHS, SES and SMS are having on November 7, 8, and 11. Dr. Warnock also mentioned about the “Gold Cards” that are available to get into school events free for senior citizens available at the Board of Education office on North Main Street. She provided all veterans with an Emanuel County Schools note pad that had a handwritten note inside written by different middle school students. State Representative Butch Parrish then introduced Georgia State Senator Max Burns. Senator Burns is a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the 1960’s after graduating from Georgia Tech. Senator Burns discussed some of the bills that go through the house and senate and how that happens. He also discussed the upcoming challenges facing both the house and senate for the 2025 session concerning the Georgia Clean-up. Senator Burns’ area consists of parts of 11 counties and over 200,000 citizens. Veteran Wayne Cannady then introduced Richie Howard, director of the Volunteer Clean-up organization, as part of the “Ministry of the Southern Baptist Association”. They are covering all of Georgia and are still present in Emanuel County assisting some local citizens with the clean-up of their yards. They are located at the First Baptist Church on West Pine Street. They DO NOT except payment of any of the work that they do for the citizens, so go by and sign up. Also, Veteran Terry Reynolds is in charge of the upcoming 13th Annual Sportsman’s Banquet and Auction that will be held at Beaver Creek Plantation, 3698 Hwy. 80 East, Twin City, GA 30471.
