The ECI Lady Dawg softball team captured their fourth consecutive title last week. The word dynasty is thrown around a lot, but the Lady Dawgs have somewhat of a region dynasty. Like the first line states, it is the fourth consecutive for ECI. But the Lady Dawgs have won nine out of the last 10 region titles. This with player turnover as much as eight starters one season, and with different region line-ups every two years.
The Bulldogs ended their region schedule last week with a 9-1 defeat of Bryan Co. to bring their region record to 13-1. The only blemish being a one run loss to Screven Co. The Bulldogs ended the regular season last week defeating Vidalia 6-4.
The Lady Dawgs will host Telfair Co. today, October 16, in the first round of the state playoffs in a best of three series. The “if needed game” is scheduled for Thursday, October 17. The Trojans play out of region four and enter the playoffs with a 9-7 season and 5-5 region records. They have scored 106 runs during the season and given up 86 in 16 games. The Lady Dawgs come in with a 18-8 season record as the region champions with a 13-1 record. They have scorched their opponents with 200 runs while holding opponents to just 80 runs in 26 games. The two teams met last season in the state playoffs in Columbus with ECI trouncing the Trojans 15-2.
Times for games will be posted on the ECI Softball and Emanuel County Institute Facebook pages when determined.
