Family Connection teaches new apple recipe to 3rd graders

Family Connection taught Charlie Cart cooking classes in Ms. Susan Stephenson’s 3rd Grade STEAM classes at SES last week. Approximately 200 students learned about different varieties of apples and got to taste them. Then students assisted in preparing grilled cheese sandwiches with sliced apples in them. The overwhelming majority loved this new healthy sandwich idea. Students were able to identify all the food groups that were represented in this delicious sandwich and also learned the health benefits of its ingredients. Many stated that they planned on asking if they could help prepare it at home. Family Connection Coordinator, Tammy Allen stated “mission accomplished”. Family Connection volunteers were Petite Garrett and Wanda Ellis.
