The ECI Bulldogs hosted Vidalia in the annual scrimmage game against the Indians. The two varsity teams played the first three quarters with the JV closing out the game in the fourth. The only score of the varsity match up was a Oisin Matthews 54-yard field goal as time ran off the clock in the third quarter, set up by a leaping catch by James Parker.
Usually in scrimmage games, teams won’t show their full arsenal. Other than the first possession by Vidalia, neither team mounted sustained drives. The Bulldogs had another chance for a FG after a 52-yard scamper by Ab Marsh. They chose to go for it on fourth down but were stopped just short of first down.
All the quarterbacks, Jackson Kennedy, Davis Johnson and Robert Reynolds saw action against the Indians, with starter Kennedy taking most of the snaps. The Bulldog receivers had hands of glue during the game grabbing a few balls high in the air. The defensive backs matched that intercepting three Indian passes to kill Vidalia drives. Daon Bethea, Ab Marsh and Kanyon Thompson had interceptions in the game.
The Bulldogs take the long drive to Rochelle Friday to take on Wilcox Co. ECI and the Patriots have met twice in the playoffs with the Bulldogs winning the state championship against the Pats in 2007 and in the semis in 2012.
