The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting at the Franklin Memorial Library Monday, August 5, at 9 a.m. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, there were 43 in attendance. Joyce Fennell provided breakfast consisting of pancakes with syrup, sausage, grits, pastries, cantaloupe, blueberries, grapes and strawberries and Shari Watt provided orange juice, grape juice, cranberry juice and coffee. Library representative Shari Watt informed them that with the veteran’s aid, they passed out over 100 bookbags of school supplies at the boneyard Saturday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the $600 that was donated by the Veterans for the Library youth project that came from the recent Veterans Cup Golf Tournament. Chair Johnny then introduced Ken Warnock with the Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce and the Emanuel County Development Authority. Warnock presented an outstanding presentation on what these two groups were accomplishing in Emanuel County in the past, present and future. He covered the different corporations that have settled here, what their needs were, what the county has done for them, and what their needs are for the future. Warnock also talked about our local airport, being one of the 13 longest runways in Georgia and how much tax revenue we receive for the planes that use our airport as their base location. We are lucky to have Ken and his team working for Emanuel County and look forward to another great presentation from him in the future. Ken, the Veterans salute you in what you do for the Citizens of Emanuel County.
