On Monday, May 27, the Veterans at the Library held their 3rd Annual Memorial Day Service at the Veterans & 1st Responders Memorial Park at 11 a.m. With over 100 in attendance, Chair Johnny Tapley welcomed everyone there. A great program was held of tolling the bell for all veterans from Emanuel County killed in service of their country and the 19 service members that have been killed in service the last three years. A U.S. Flag flies on the parks black fence for all 19 of these service members. The newest Veteran is Johnny Earl Brown, Jr. who served in the U.S. Army from 1995 to 2005. He was stationed at Fort Jackson, Fort Lee and Fort Sill. Brown’s highest rank was 1st Lt. Veteran Brown got to hear the Brier Creek Artillery, SAR, fire their five cannons 15 times and hear Veteran Bob Nobles play taps on his bugle.
