Mary Ann was born July 22, 1933, at the Brinson Homeplace near Twin City in Emanuel County, to the late Lucile Belk and Remer Young Brinson. She graduated from Emanuel County Institute and attended Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro. Mary Ann was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She left Georgia Teachers College in May 1952 to marry Dolan Edward Brown, Jr. They initially lived at their farm in Garfield but moved to Twin City five years later. Faith and family were her priorities in life. Mary Ann dedicated her time to caring for her family and her church. She was a lifelong member of Twin City First Baptist Church where she actively served in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, GA’s, Acteens and WMU (Women’s Missionary Union). At the same time, she always supported Dolan in his various leadership roles in agriculture and the church and traveled with him often. The family, nuclear and extended, was important to Mary Ann. She raised her sons to value and respect past and present family and appreciate their agricultural heritage. Cousins were always welcome and encouraged to visit. Nothing made her happier than time with family or good news about them.
After her grandchildren arrived, Mary Ann was always available and willing to provide some extra TLC (tender loving care) whenever they needed her, whether it was a short visit, a sick day, or a holiday from school. All seven grandchildren looked forward to visiting and celebrating holidays, birthdays and other special occasions with her. Mrs. Brown is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Betty Lane Brinson; brother and his wife, Lt. Colonel Remer Young Brinson, Jr. and Shirley Blitch Brinson; and nephew, Benjamin Pierce Brinson.
Mrs. Brown is survived and lovingly remembered by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dolan Edward Brown, III and Pamela Strickland Brown of Garfield, David Brinson Brown and Susan Kent Brown of Statesboro and Mark Hendry Brown and Kimberly Townsend Brown of Garfield; seven grandchildren and their spouses, David Brinson Brown, Jr., of Statesboro, Lazar Brown Oglesby and Johnny Oglesby of Millen, Mary Beth Brown of Statesboro, Belk Ashton Brown of Twin City, Sarah Brown Gay and Garrison Gay of Charlotte, NC, Caroline Brown Callaway and Adam Callaway of Garfield, Dolan Edward Brown, IV and Marianna Peebles Brown of Garfield; three great-grandchildren, Cates Hendry Callaway, Grace Brinson Gay and Dolan Emmett Brown; nieces, nephews and their children, William Holton Brinson and Ruth Lewis Brinson of Augusta, Ginger Brinson Dobbs and John Dobbs of Grovetown, Carol Brinson Tuten and Ray Tuten of Lincolnton, Remer Young Brinson, III and Laura Curley Brinson of Augusta; special friends, Annie Jo and Loy D.
