Honor Flights Program presented to Vets

The Veterans at the Library held their weekly meeting Monday, March 11. With Chair Johnny Tapley presiding, they had 49 in attendance including two new Veterans. Willie Albert Fullard served in the U. S. Army from 1965 to 1967, serving in Vietnam and in Indiana. His highest rank received was Sergeant. Roger Lynn Jennings, who presented the program, served in the U.S. Air Force from October 1975 to June 1996, serving in Okinawa, Florida, Germany, South Carolina, Lousanna, Utah, Saudia Arabia and Iceland. His highest rank received was E-9. Jennings talked about Honor Flights being a nationwide network of 125 hubs. The mission of Honor Flight is to celebrate America’s veterans by inviting them to share in a day of honor at our nation’s memorials. Jennings is part of the “Middle Georgia Honor Flight”. Each quarter, they fly veterans to Washington DC for two nights and three days to visit our memorials. All meals, lodging and travel is free to veterans. Right now, they are concentrating on WWII and Korean veterans first. Chair Johnny reminded of the upcoming Military Appreciation Tailgate at East Georgia State College for veterans on March 23, at 12 p.m. It’s Bobcat Baseball vs Gordon State in a double-header with food, games, prizes, and fun for the whole family. Bleacher seating is limited so take your chairs. Also on Sunday, March 24, at 3 p.m. at the East Georgia State College Luck Gambrell center will be the United States Air Force Band of the West.
