Commissioners get good news for paving projects

In its customary manner, the Emanuel County Board of Commissioners moved concisely through the agenda of its regular March 18, 2024, meeting this past Monday evening. Commission Chairman Hugh Foskey called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. In addition to the Chairman, Commissioners Oliver, Sherrod and Thompson were in attendance as well as Administrator Singletary. Halie Lamb was recognized and welcomed as the newly hired County Clerk. Following the invocation and Pledge of Allegiance, a public hearing was convened to allow for comments regarding the final approval of an application for an alcohol license in the name of Swatiben Patel, Highway 1 North. Hearing no comments, the application was deemed complete and a motion to grant was passed. Motion for approval of minutes from the March 12, 2024, workshop meeting and the February 19 regular meeting was called for and approved. There were no agenda items presented under old business. Moving to new business, the commission discussed the 2024 Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant which is annually provided by the state. Administrator Singletary announced the grant this year was in the amount of 1.3 million dollars and the low bidder for the contract was Scruggs Paving. Singletary also reported that the county received some good news in the return of excess TSPLOST funding to the county and excess budgetary transportation funds which were returned to Georgia counties by action of Governor Kemp. This is welcomed assistance that will be applied to paving needs in various areas of the county. This completed the evening’s agenda and Chairman Foskey accepted motion for adjournment.
